Hey all,

I know I haven't been around much (LOL considering you can see the Happy New Year 2009 still up on the front page!) but wanted to reassure everyone I will be here more often now that I'm finally graduated from school. Yay!!

Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and look forward in a positive manner of what 2010 will bring.

A big thanks goes out to Scott Dowdle from Montana Linux for this video! It looks pretty easy and I shall have to try it out myself one of these days. One note regarding the video below is that the embedded video is in Ogg format, so those with Windows and/or who use Windows Media Player may not be able to play this. If you still have an interest and want to see the video, go here.

Or, if you want to download the proper codecs, do so here. Instructions for proper installation are here

Are Paid-for Linux Distributions Worth It? PDF Print E-mail

This is something I've wondered about for a while.  There are pro's and con's to just about every decision that is under consideration  or has to be made, but what do you get in a paid-for Linux distribution that you can't get in a free one with a little tweaking?  I was just reflecting on this topic because I noticed a lot of Linux distributions are going the paid-for route, especially the newer ones.  What do they offer to new or experienced Linux users that makes them worth their price tag?  I hope to discover and hear feedback from those who can cast some light on the subject and enlighten me as to what I am missing or leaving out of the puzzle.

The Question Isn't About Linux Anymore, It's About Which Linux PDF Print E-mail

When I first started getting my feet wet in the Linux world back in 2002 (using Red Hat), there were not that many distributions that were known as being "friendly" to new users as there are now.  Back then, if you weren't using Red Hat, you were using either Mandrake (Mandriva) or SUSE.  Times have changed since then.  Times usually do change at a faster rate in the technological/computer world so it is of no surprise that so many alternate distributions out there now are claiming as their main focus the best distribution for the desktop.
